The majority of churches in North America today are either plateaued or in decline. Christian values are under siege. But what would happen if Christ came and knocked on the door of your church? Would there be renewed hope?
In their latest release, Flickering Lamps: Christ and His Church, the Blackaby’s examine the compelling story of a little church that found such hope when Christ took control.

Months ago our church scheduled a renewal. One of our church members left a copy of FL on my desk. I read it, and it was like getting kicked in the teeth. Wow! Only Blackaby could so authentically articulate such simple, yet profound truths, regarding Christ’s relationship to His church. I knew the book had to be shared. As a church, we began reading FL and openly discussing it on Sunday evenings. We also referenced it in our church newsletter and on Sunday mornings. In short, FL became “the talk of the town,” and thus quite instrumental in helping to usher in a renewal in our church (and our community).
In my twenty years as pastor in Gruver, this is the first time God has visited this community with such power and conviction. Henry’s masterful weaving of his experience in Saskatoon through the seven churches of Asia Minor introduces a person to his/her self. The reader is gloriously obligated to examine his/her life in relation to what Christ has called His church to be/do. The journey through FL is not comfortable (see above [“like getting kicked in the teeth”]), but, when taken seriously, proves to be quite fecund.
Thank you, Henry, for reminding us that the world still needs the church’s mission!
