Experiencing God was my life message. This is how I had always understood and walked with God. This is how I had pastored and guided God's people. I had shared these truths in many places where I was asked to speak. Over and over again people asked, "Have you ever written anything on what you are teaching? God's people need to hear these truths." God gave me the opportunity to put this message in writing in what is known as Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God.Since 1990 God has used this study to touch and change millions of lives and thousands of churches around the world. At the tenth anniversary more than three million copies of the workbook had been distributed, and God was using other Experiencing God resources as well. The workbook is now published in 47 languages and has been used in almost every denomination. We are amazed that God, in His mercy and grace, would use such a modest work by ordinary people! He has chosen to grant His favor on His truth expressed in this study. We have been overwhelmed by the response to the truths shared in Experiencing God. So many lives have been radically changed--in prisons; in the military; and in all walks of life, including lawyers, judges, CEOs, professional athletes, and politicians. Thousands of churches, high schools, colleges, and seminaries have been greatly helped and radically changed. God has used these truths to affect people around the world, including leaders of countries, government officials, and diplomats. Hundreds of missionaries are on the field of the world because of this study, and hundreds of others are now serving as pastors, evangelists, and faithful servants. Only heaven really knows how God has chosen to use Experiencing God.
Experiencing God': 20 years, 45 languages by Sam House (Lifeway) Join God where He is working. That simple premise hasn't changed during the two-decade history of "Experiencing God," an interactive Bible study first published in 1990 that taught a radically God-centered way of life. Initially written by Henry Blackaby and Claude King, the material was revised and expanded in 2007 by Richard Blackaby, Henry Blackaby's son. Now, 20 years since its debut, the workbook is available in more than 45 languages and has sold 7 million copies. IN PRISON In 1995, Burl Cain became the new warden at Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, arguably the most violent and dangerous prison in America. Knowing how God had used Experiencing God in his own life and believing that real change takes place in the heart, Cain soon introduced the workbook to the 5,200 inmates at Angola prison. Over time, more and more inmates responded to the message. Some felt called to serve as Christian ministers and began meeting with other inmates for worship and prayer. New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary later opened an extension center at the prison, and more than 150 men have earned bachelor's or associate's degrees. Inmate volunteers built chapels on the prison grounds. To this day, inmate congregations continue to use Experiencing God to lead others to deeper relationships with Christ. |
Adult Curriculum
The Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God Bible study is the classic, best-selling, 13 week study. The following resources can be used as part of that study.
This revised and expanded edition of the classic best-selling course guides learners to experience the kind of relationship with God through which they come to know and do His will. Through examination of biblical and contemporary illustrations, participants will understand and apply seven realities of experiencing God. Churches will be helped to better function as the body of Christ as members understand how to experience God as a church. (13 sessions)
This revised leader guide contains administrative helps to facilitate a study of Experiencing God Revised using the Member Book and tools in the Leader Kit. It includes step-by-step guidance for an introductory session and twelve small-group sessions corresponding to the units in the member book. Each session’s plans also include insights that will help leaders respond to questions that may arise.
